In the past few years, we have heard many members of our community discussing Restorative Justice (RJ) principles, as well as expressing a desire to implement Restorative Justice practices as alternative options to conduct issues. This heightened interest resulted in the creation of the Pomona College Student Affairs RJ Committee. We began our work by attending RJ facilitator training at the University of San Diego Center for Restorative Justice. The implementation of the four principles of restorative justice can strengthen the community, involve members who are part of the general educational enterprise, and assist institutions in graduating individuals with a stronger understanding of responsible citizenship (Karp, 2013; Zehr, 2003). The four principles build a framework for building community and repairing harm through a circle and conference restorative justice methods. We invite you to join us in a two-day immersive RJ Workshop. Please note, the upcoming workshop is identical to the RJ workshop that was previously presented in May 2024. This experience will provide participants with the opportunity to learn:More about the history and philosophies that inform RJ,How RJ Conferences and Circles are facilitated,How to incorporate RJ principles into our daily professional interactions, and How RJ is being facilitated on Pomona’s campus today. This is not a RJ facilitator training. This is an opportunity to experience an RJ conference and an RJ circle to better understand this philosophical approach to resolving conflict or building community. The workshop will be May 13 and May 15 from 9:30am - 3:00pm. This workshop is designed for full participation to gain the most of the immersive experience of the RJ practices. Therefore, we kindly ask that you commit to both days of the training and plan to be fully engaged for the duration of the days.Space is limited to the first 30 people to register. To reserve your spot please RSVP through this event page on Engage.Once you register, we will provide you with more details about how to prepare for this experience.
